Notes
Titles from front cover.
Telescopic, hand-colored, lithographed peep-show with three viewing holes which allow the viewer a perspective view, as standing on the track, of the train and a large crowd of spectators standing between rows of trees and forming a corridor for the track. It comprises a front cover and backdrop mounted on stiff boards, and five cut-out images, connected at the top and bottom by bands of contemporary paper folded accordion-style.
The two-part image on the front cover shows the train of five carriages, coal-car, and a Stevenson & Co. locomotive named the Adler [eagle] placed above a view of Nuremberg. The railroad was opened in 1835, and the peep-show was sold as souvenir around the time of the opening.
"Steindr. von G.W. Faber i. Nürnb."--front cover.
