Binding
16th-century Netherlandish/English panel-stamped calf over wooden boards; rebacked by Duprez Lahey. The leather is blind tooled with two impressions of the same stamp having two compartments separated by a band with 4 heraldic aniamls in compartments, generally used by English binders of the period but more than likely continental. The figures in the compartments are John the Baptist preaching and St. Michael (St. Michael was later used by John Siberch at Cambridge, see Oldham, Panel Stamps, St. 23 and Trip. 11).
