According to DNE I, p. 255 under Aleaius (Alexander) this treatise dedicated, in a rather ingeniously conceived preface to James 7 of Scotland, was written by Johannes Cochlaeus in refutation to Alesius' "Epistola contra decretum quodam Episcoporum in Scotia, quod prohibet legere Novi Testamenti libros lingua vernacula."
