Creator
Yates, Edmund Hodgson, 1831-1894.
Published
London : Printed by Taylor and Greening, 1859 [i.e. 189-].
Notes
"Printed by Taylor and Greening, Graystoke Place, Fetter Lane, London."--Colophon.
A letterpress forgery of the original Edmund Yates pamphlet privately printed by the author in 1859 (cf. Carter & Pollard, p. 359). Issue B, with the name "Dickens" spelt correctly on p. 14, line 34 and differs slightly in punctuation; variant Y, printed on thin and coarse paper which foxes rapidly on exposure to light.
Carter & Pollard's analysis suggests that the forged copies of Yates's pamphlet date from the 1890's, following the sale at auction of an authentic copy of the pamphlet in 1889, with Wise's forgeries surfacing on the market after that date and possibly inspired by the high price realized by the copy sold in 1889.
Forgery probably printed by R. Clay & Sons for Thomas J. Wise sometime during the 1890's.
