Fragment consisting of sheets belonging to the section "Ballads from the Minstrelsey of the Scottish Border" as printed at the end of the first edition-2d impression (large and thick paper) of "The lay" comprising "Notes" (p. clxv-clxviii) for "The grey brother" and "Thomas the rhymer" and an "Appendix" (misnumbered but complete) with a running-title "Ballads and songs."

On verso of the first leaf: "To a few copies of this edition there is added (by permission of the author.) an Appendix of Poetical Pieces, which are to be found in no other edition of Mr. Scott's Works ... "
