The t.p. exists in four states. The first has the publisher's device of Ball Brothers Company followed by: "Privately Printed / [single red rule] / Muncie, Indiana." The t.p. verso Christmas wish is signed in print " Ball Brothers Company." The second state has a vignette of Scrooge followed by " Privately Printed / [single red rule] / New York." The Christmas wish is signed in holograph "Richard W. Ellis." The Third state has a vignette of a 15th century compositor followed by: "Privately Printed by / Richard W. Ellis / for His Friends." The Christmas wish is unsigned. The fourth state has a vignette of a 15th century compositor followed by: "Privately Printed by / Esther & Richard Ellis / for their Friends." The Christmas wish is unsigned.
