Inscriptions/Markings
Extensive marginalia in pencil by Richard Dadd, which has been inked over by G.H. Haydon. Signed on the half-title page in ink: "Geo. H. Haydon, Jan'y 1859"; inscribed below in pencil: "(pencil notes by R.D.)"; and, below that in ink: "(Pencil notes by Richard Dadd -- ); 10/4/77, These pencil notes, growing fainter & fainter, (at M.W.W.'s [presumably Dr. William Wood (1816-1892)]suggestion) I carefully copied in ink [signed] GH Haydon." B.R. Haydon's son, Frederick Wordsworth Haydon, has added an explanatory note about his father's death on p. x; a revision concerning Lord Beaumont's manor on p. 116 also appears to be in Frederick's hand. With some underlining and marks in blue or red pencil or ink throughout the text; a pencil inscription has been added to the errata leaf corresponding to p. 153--a brief annotation Haydon did not ink over.
