Illustrations: 9 prints : engraving, 3 hand col. ; plate mark 18 x 19 cm. (2) and 17 x 13 cm. (7). Comprise one engraving by J.N. Maag after J.F. Franck printed in dark blue-green (subject: putti harvesting poplar seed down), 3 hand-col. engravings (subject: plant sources of non-rag paper), and 5 engravings on folded leaves (subject: papermaking machinery).
Samples, chiefly full-page, comprise specimens of paper made from various materials: down of the seeds of cotton grass, thistles and milkweed; stalks of thistles, burdock, mallow, orache and dyer's broom; pine wood and pinecones; wood and bark of wormwood; lily of the valley leaves; stalks, leaves and husks of maize; skin and pulp of potatoes; conferva; grapevines; asbestos; peat; mixtures of scraps from the various other experimental papers. Included also are 4 samples of cloth made from poplar seed down and 2 samples of lace made from aloe leaf fibers. Some samples in v. 3 painted to show suitability of the paper for use as wallpaper, etc.
