Charlotte Brontë's copy, inscribed to her by the Reverend William Morgan, Bradford, 1831; additional inscriptions signed AC (Andrew Cassels, according to Edward Chitham, or possibly Ann Cook, according to Gail Turley Houston); by descent to Rev. Arthur Bell Nicholls (Charlotte's husband) and then to his second wife, Mary Ann Bell (1830-1915), who sold the Brontë literary works and memorabilia, Sotheby's, 26 July 1907, lot 14, for £6.0.0; Pierpont Morgan, purchased from J. Pearson & Co., Aug. 1911.
Binding
Brown sheep, blind-tooled on front cover with stamp: "Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge," and stamped on front pastedown, "J. Smith, Binding, July 1830;" in a blue morocco case.
