Title in black and red; enclosed in a four part woodcut border, with grotesques. Black florets within the border.
Text in black and red, each leaf of the text is within a woodcut border, many of which have the Lorraine cross, the device of Geoffroy Tory. First appearance of these woodcut borders. The border on both sides of biiij, gvi, kv, miiij, pii vvii are dated 1536, but not used before. Portraits and enclosed fleurs-de-lis are on many of the borders. Foot border on bv includes five cherubs.
Of the fourteen woodcut illustrations designed by Tory, three (eiv, fiijv, and kiiv) are signed with the Lorraine cross, attributed to Jacquemin Woeiriot. Woodcut on fiiij verso dated 1537. The woodcut on miv, the raising of Lazarus, includes rounded portraits of Francois I, and probably his queen. The kneeling figure in the "Adoration of the Magi" f7v is thought to also be Francois I. The architectural borders for each illustration are specifically designed for each woodcut. The borders are of two kinds, some in outline in the style of Tory, with dates 1536, 1539 and some in black ornamentation. There are 8 complete borders (32 compartments) in simple-line engraving from Tory's establishment and used by his widow.

The 1543 edition of the Book of hours differs from Colines' earlier works in that they were intended to be decorated, whereas the present editions are intended to be complete in themselves.
