Notes
13 cuts and borders to all pages, engraved by Tory. They include the salamander of François I and his crowned chiffre as well as that of Claude, his wife; also Tory's own motto and his mark of the pot cassé which is also found on the first and last pages.
Colophon: Ces presentes heures a lusage de Rome fure[n]t acheuees de imprimer le Mardy dixseptiesme iour de Ianuier Mil cinq cens vingtcinq: pour Maistre Geofroy Toyr [sic] de Bourges, Libraire demorant a Paris ... a lenseigne du Pot casse.
Many cuts, borders throughout, illuminated. 3 publisher's devices (2 on t-p, 1 below colophon). Device on title page (45 x 30mm) and colophon (95 x 60mm). Borders on every page except for title page and colophon, some including the name Geofroy Tory inset on plaques, some the initials F or C, beneath crowns, some the phrases "Soli Deo Laus, Honor", "Sic ut non plus". 13 large woodcuts of Annunciation (leaves DD3v-D4r), Visitation (ED2v), Nativity (ED7r), Visit of the Shepherds (FD1r), Visit of the Magi (FD3r), Circumcision (FD5r), Flight to Egypt (FD7r), Coronation (GD2r), Crucifixion (MD7r), Assumption (ND2r), David (?)(ND4r), Angel of Death(??)(OD4r). Some initials large in red, rubrics in red.
On leaf A²v is a list of Easter days for 1523-1552.
On t.p. verso: Privilege du Roy dated Avignon, 23 Sept. 1524.

Provenance
Unidentified armorial (leaves B2 and D4). On flyleaf: painted coat of arms of François de Balzac, comte d'Entragues, Chevalier de Saint Esprit 1578, and Jacquelin de Rohan, Dame de Gyé (d. 1570), his wife. Previously owned by Earl Ashburnham (sale, 1898; 2033), Hanrott (lot 1428), Yemeniz and Hoe.
Binding
Brown levant, gilt edges, and tooled with a Tory design, in half brown morocco folding box and with doublure by Duprez Lahey.
