Printed on front wrapper: Submitted by: H.N. Swanson Inc. 8523 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, Calif.
Promotional copy created for distribution to Hollywood film studios in 1943 by the author's literary agent H.N. Swanson; the printed text evidently a portion of bound page proofs extracted from Cain's Three of a Kind (New York : Knopf, 1943). Copies such as this one, accompanied by copies of the author's typed notes and suggestions regarding film treatment of his story, were likely prepared by the Swanson agency in early 1943 for distribution to the Hollywood studios prior to its publication by Alfred A. Knopf in May of that year, in the omnibus volume entitled Three of a Kind, which represented the first hardcover appearance of Cain's novelette.
Story originally published serially in Liberty magazine in 1936.
