Eisenstaedt was sent to Ethiopia in 1935 by The Associated Press. Fifteen of his photographs from this assignment (not including this one) were then published serially in The Ithaca Journal, June 10-27, 1935, under the heading "Ethiopia: War Threat Looms for Black Empire."
