Assistant Chief of Security

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the position of Assistant Chief of Security. The Assistant Chief of Security serves as the top deputy to the Chief of Security, assuming a leadership role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers, and in safeguarding the collection of a landmark New York institution. The Assistant Chief provides support with daily security duties, life safety, and other duties necessary to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position supports the Chief of Security in personnel supervision and training, operational oversight, policy implementation, emergency management, and administrative work, and assumes the duties of the Chief of Security in their absence.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with principles and practices of supervision and security management, including operations and personnel practices, procedural and administrative practices, security preventative practices, investigatory practices, and related legal responsibilities.
  • Effective verbal and written interpersonal communication with a diverse range of people, including the proper handling of highly charged and/or emotional situations.
  • Demonstrated experience with de-escalation techniques as well as resolving a variety of difficult problems.
  • Familiarity with basic office software such as email (Gmail), word processing (Word), and spreadsheets (Excel).
  • Experience with scheduling, staffing, and resource management.

Education and Experience

  • 2-year associate degree or comparable education.
  • 5+ years full-time experience with security, law enforcement and/or fire safety operations.
  • Management experience
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of a F-89 Certificate of Fitness for Fire and Life Safety Director is highly desirable.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • The role requires schedule flexibility, including availability for some night, weekend, and holiday work, as well as emergency on-site response as needed.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs. or more, climbing on stairs and ladders, working in tight spaces, as well as standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Must have adequate hearing to work in mechanical areas or other noisy situations.
Compensation

$75,000–$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits plan.
