Arms of Von Kilch with Virtues
Acquired by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913), New York, and installed in his library 1907-1909.
In the center of the panel, an elaborate coat of arms is silhouetted against a white ground. An image of a chapel framed by buffalo horns surmounts the helm. The device sits in front of four green columns whose red capitals support an orange arch. A green boss commands the center of the arch and in the spandrels are majestic female personifications. Vigilance to the left and Power to the right, they recline on the arch holding shields with symbols. On the lower right are symbols of Justice and Peace accompanied by a putto. At the bottom of the panel is a gold-framed cartouche carrying the inscription.
