Wood (likely walnut)
64 x 23 x 25 inches
Purchased by Pierpont Morgan before 1913.

Notes:

This cassone is elaborately carved with sphinxes at the corners, and a coat of arms with three stars and a cornucopia on a shield at center. The cassone rests on carved feet in the form of fantastic lions. It is documented in the East Room of the historic library in the inventory made of the building's contents at the time of Morgan's death in 1913.
This cassone may have been acquired from Duveen Brothers, New York, in 1906, as "1 old walnut chest."
