Notes:

Miniatures often reproduced famous works and copied engravings or paintings. McIntyre based this miniature on the 1889 life-size painting of Cupid abducting Psyche by the French academic painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905). The painting is now in the collection of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart, Australia. Fastidiously copied in most respects, McIntyre changed the color of Psyche's wings and Cupid's drapery to pastel shades, enhancing the dreamy quality of the scene.
