Bronze.
height: 5 7/8 inches (148 mm); diameter: 3 1/2 inches (90 mm)
Acquired by J. Pierpont Morgan.
AZ061
Notes:

The decorative work on this bell is comparable to an example in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (acc. no. M.194-1938) and may be from the same workshop. It is likely the work of a Venetian or Paduan craftsman and dates from ca. 1500-1550. Included are the arms of the Strozzi family and the initial B.S. possibly a reference to Bernardo Strozzi (1581-1644).

Provenance:
Strozzi family by descent to Piero Strozzi (1855-1907), Villa del Boschetto, Florence; Jacques Seligmann (1858-1923), Paris; from whom acquired by J. Pierpont Morgan ca. 1908 (as Giambologna).
Summary:

Bell is decorated with swags of fruits and leaves and allegorical horned faces.
