Provenance:
Seventeenth century inscription on flyleaf states that the manuscript had belonged to Philippe de Gueldres, duchess of Lorraine and queen of Sicily; purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) from Badin in 1907; J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).
Notes:
Ms. book of hours (lacks material to determine use) containing the Office of the Passion, prayers and suffrages; written and illuminated in France, probably Angers, ca. 1470; text and small miniatures added about 1500.
Artists: the Master of the Geneva Boccaccio, a member of the Master of Jouvenel des Ursins group, did the original miniatures; added miniatures by the Artist of Additions to Morgan 263, an artist who worked with the Master of René II.
Decoration: 7 large miniatures with border scenes; 8 small miniatures, 1 small added historiated initial.
