Arms (fleurs-de-lis, etc.) in borders, possibly repainted; bought Nov. 20, 1895 by Richard Bennett, his bookplate, his Catalogue, no. 34; purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) with the Bennett Collection in 1902; J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).
Ms. book of hours for the use of Besançon; written and illuminated in Besançon or Savoy, ca. 1470.
Artist: a follower of Antoine de Lonhy.
Decoration: 21 large miniatures, 11 small border miniatures.
The illumination of M.196 is unfinished. The heraldic shield in the upper left margin of fol. 78r has not been painted.
