Chester Beatty (his W ms. 9 [alternatively W ms. 4; 87]), 17 December 1920, £1,500; purchased through Maggs from Mrs. Edith Beatty in 1952 from the Belle da Costa Greene Fund.
Ms. written and illuminated in Northern France, probably St. Amand, ca. 855-865.
Decoration: 4 full-page miniatures (Evangelist portraits), 12 decorated canon tables, 4 decorated incipit pages, 6 framed text pages.
Artist: the miniatures derive from the same prototype as the Gospels of Francis II (Paris, Bibliothèque nationale de France, MS Lat. 257) and St. Petersburg, Hermitage, MS Q.V.I.26.
