Probably commissioned by Gerungus of Weitrach for Abbot Heinricus I (1247-1250) of Seitenstetten; remained in library of Seittenstetten until 1927, when purchased by A. Chester Beatty through J. Rosenthal of Munich; purchased in 1930 by William Randolph Hearst; purchased from the Brummer Gallery in 1940.
