Made for a priest named Vardan in the Sisian region (inscription beside portrait of St. Matthew: Remember in Christ our honorable father Vardan, Amen); purchased from Demotte in 1935.
Notes
Ms. three leaves from a Gospel book; written and illumnated in Aghitu Vankʻ, Sisian, Armenia, and extracted from a Gospels manuscript dated 1296.
Scribe: Mkhitʼar.
Decoration: 6 double-arched canon tables decorated with birds; one with a portrait of St. Matthew (fol. 1v).
M.789 is unfinished. The canon tables on M.789.1r, M.789.2r, M.789.2v, M.789.3r and M.789.3v were painted but contain no text.
Artist: probably Mkhitʼar.
