Notes
Typed on page 1: "Commissioned originally by the League of Composers in 1940, the work had its premiere at the Spartanburg, S.C. festival. Later is was played on many campuses including Denver, Syracuse, Columbia, No. Carolina, Harvard, Stanford and many colleges. It received the David Bispham award for contemporary opera, Chicago 1946. ... Despite the popularity of the work and its success in the profession (a few opinions are appended), the authors felt the need of many revisions and withdrew the work from performance. Not until this year, 1963, have the score and text been prepared in final form. ... Until publication, the material may be obtained from Ernst Bacon, School of Music, Syracuse University: the text from Mr. Horgan's agent, Mrs. Annie Laurie Williams, 18 E. 41 Street, N.Y."
