Notes
10 lines on p. 1, with an address on the verso: "P. Bingham Esqr., Revd. W. Bowles's, Bremhill, Calne, Wilts."
A heavily revised version of this poem appeared in The mirror of literature, amusement, and instruction (v. 12, no. 326) on Aug. 9, 1828, in an article about the garden of Bremhill Parsonage, the residence of the Rev. W.L. Bowles. The article quotes the poem and notes that it is inscribed on a large shell which was "the gift of a valued friend, the author of Pleasures of memory" [Campbell]; however the article suggests that the poem may have been written by Peregrine Bingham.
This volume includes three manuscript poems, ten autograph letters signed, Campbell's signature, and four engravings of Campbell; these items are described in 18 individual records (MA 1295.1-18).
