Notes
A penciled note at the top of the first page indicates this is a "portion of a diary of Byron's valet Fletcher;" it is unclear whether it is in Fletcher's hand.
Part of a collection of autograph letters written by Lord Byron, Lady Byron, Catherine Gordon Byron, Contessa Guiccioli, Ada King Lovelace and others from 1788 to 1855. Items in the collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see collection-level record for more information.
The pages are not dated however they refer extensively to Medwin's assertions about Byron which might suggest the writing was close to the publication of Medwin's Conversations of Lord Byron published in October 1824; he does not refer to Murray's rebuttal which appeared late in October 1824 but rather to the untrue characterization of the friendship between Byron and Murray.
