Summary
Discussing a bill that "nearly passed" that would have forbidden "any public officers to impress on any occasion whatever"; mentioning that he has "made a requisition of two hundred Horses"; informing him that he is going to Philadelphia to speak to the authorities about their need for supplies and their concerns about the people's reluctance to accept impressment "without payment for their property"; writing, "I made the most pressing requisitions of Col. [Timothy] Pickering & General Washington for Supplies of money when they were in Virginia, but they told me the want of money in all quarters was equally felt, and must be until Mr. [Robert] Morris's schemes of Finance were productive"; reporting that "Four Waggons will start to day with Clothing, Camp Kettles & Axes"; commenting on Governor [Benjamin] Harrison's efforts to help them obtain supplies; congratulating Greene on his "extraordinary and hard bought successes"; noting that people have "a perfect aversion to doing any thing for the Continental Service"; saying that he plans to deliver to Greene "two elegant Geldings" that the "Assembly have directed the Executive to purchase ... & present to [Greene] as expressive of their high Sence [sic] of [his] Services."
