Each page of Byron's manuscript faces a transcription of the page by George D'Aguilar with the exception of five pages that were inserted in 1932: p. 13-14 (labeled 6a), p. 63-6 (30a-b), p. 85-6 (39a), and p. 91-2 (41a). According to Belle da Costa Greene, these five pages were written after the rest of the poem and sent to John Murray, Byron's publisher, for insertion in the second edition of Jan. 1814.
Formerly bound with Byron's autograph manuscript of The castled crag of Drachenfels (MA 65.2), now housed separately.

Provenance: 
These manuscripts were given by Augusta Leigh, Byron's half-sister, to George D'Aguilar in 1830. Henry Torrens D'Aguilar's name also appears on the front flyleaf.
