Summary
Commenting on his novel A Month in the Country: "Friends told me the BBC parson preached his midnight sermon at New Years Eve on it and claimed it was a story of Spiritual Renewal. Now I meant it to be a Love Story without Sex (very difficult to write these days). And then a vicar's wife in Cambridge told a mutual acquaintance that it was 'oozing with sex.' So I give up. Well no -- I think I'll re-read it!"; discussing the idea of the Morgan Library acquiring the manuscript of the novel; mentioning that he has just returned from a stay with Edward Thomas's nephew, who works in the War Office compiling information about British intelligence during World War II; adding that he hears A Month in the Country is "circulating in photo-copy at the Brooklyn College of Dramatic Art. Now there must be a story there!"
