Summary
Telling Knight that he can find a copy of the "Goethe Testimonial" in the Correspondence between Goethe and Carlyle (Macmillan & Co., 1887), edited by Charles Eliot Norton; adding in a postscript that he believes that the original of the testimonial is in his possession, "but all the Goethe Letters were given by my late Wife [Mary Aitken Carlyle] to the Grand Duchess of Weimar soon after the publication of the Volume above referred to -- The most precious of my Papers are at present in the strong room of the British Linen Co. Bank & cannot easily be referred to."
