Thomas Carlyle collection of autograph letters signed (56), signed receipts (7), prints (4), and a photograph, 1840-1872.

This collection includes 54 autograph letters signed, 7 signed receipts, a letter written for Carlyle by his niece Mary, Carlyle's notes on a printed version of one of his translations of Goethe (1 p.), 4 prints, and a photograph. There are also calligraphic title pages dividing the letters into groups: "letters to his brother James," "letters to W.D. Christie concerning the London Library," "letters to his publishers," and "letters to various friends." Items are described separately in 68 records (MA 741.1-68).
