This letter is from a large collection of letters written to Sir George Howland Beaumont (1753-1827) and Lady Margaret Willes Beaumont (1758-1829) of Coleorton Hall and to other members of the Beaumont family.
This letter was formerly identified as MA 1581 (Canova).
The signature has been cut from this letter.
The identity of the recipient as Sir George Beaumont is not provided on this letter, however, in an article by Hugh Honour titled "Canova's Studio Practice II: 1792-1822", (Burlington Magazine, vol. 114, no. 829, April 1972, p. 219), Honour quotes from this letter which he identifies as a letter to Sir George Beaumont. Honour also identifies the work under discussion as the marble group of Mars and Venus.
