Summary
Writing of his concerns about French aggression: "Seeing how things are in Poland, the day as I apprehend is not distant when England must be fought for as English Ground. I have therefore this day sent to King and one of his Equerries copies of the Aegis [referring to his book England's Aegis, or, The military energies of the constitution]"; asking that Hunter immediately send copies to the leaders of the government; listing the desired recipients as the Duke of York, the Earl Camden, the Right Honorable Lord Eldon, the Earl of Westmorland, the Duke of Portland, the Right Honorable Lord Mulgrave, the Earl of Chatham, Earl Bathurst, the Right Honorable Lord Hawkesbury (Robert Jenkinson), the Right Honorable George Canning, the Right Honorable Lord Castlereagh, the Right Honorable Spencer Perceval, General Manners, General Gwyn (spelled "Gwin" here) and General Cartwright; providing the wording for a note to be included with each copy; adding that the copies for the three generals should be sent to their army agents for further forwarding; urging Hunter to act quickly: "Pray do not lost a moment in executing this Commission -- nor neglect to practice with your Rifle"; sending a correction to be made in volume II.
