Notes
Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Written from Loughrigg Villa, Ambleside.
The year of writing is not given, however he refers to Professor Knight's Preface to "The Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth" which was published in 1897.
William was the brother of the preacher and writer Stopford Augustus Brooke, and both brothers were deeply involved in the creation of the Dove Cottage Trust-- see MA 9087.1-61 for a related collection. MA 9087.22 is in fact a dual letter written by both Stopford and William.
