Writing that he is "grieved to hear that [the recipient's] work has hitherto been worse than unprofitable to [him]"; noting that he was sure "it ought to be a source of very considerable profit"; wondering what it is that people are reading; adding that "it is a grievous thing and a shame -- that after so brilliant a treasure has been scoured out of darkness, it should not immediately attract eager and general attention."
