Summary
Concerning a position as an inspector of schools: writing that he is "disgusted at the result of your application to Lord Granville -- sorry on your account, but even more so for the obstacle which has come in your path. But we live in an enlightened and liberal age, with a liberal Govt & I suppose persecution & disabilities may not be complained of"; promising to raise the matter in the House of Commons; commenting that "I suppose orthodoxy has not been much considered in some of the appointments heretofore made, so far as I am acquainted with Inspectors of Schools!"; writing that he hopes Hodgson finds something better and that he would be "glad to forward your views in any way."
