Summary
Sympathizing with her husband T. J. Cobden-Sanderson's illness and commenting on retirement and aging: "It is too bad when one is so young as he is, to be plagued by the wicked elements of old age. I too resent any incursion into the peace due to declining years. Naughty nature takes advantage of any declaration on our part of retiring from work. 'What insolence,' she says, 'I'll let him know he must not act of his own will.' She has done that often of late to me, & my only consolation is to despise her as far as I can, & to try & get round her -- which is generally impossible. Still, she can't prevent my contempt of her unfairness, & I think that is also yr. husband's temper. It is a good, healthy temper. Yes, I remain optimist, but that does not mean that I am not often torn with horror & dismay & especially of late. Give my love & sympathy to your Man."
