Summary
Enclosing a copy of a letter from Thomas Allen, dated June 5, 1809, reporting on damage to the Old Wall of the Esplanade at Weymouth due to high winds and high Tides; suggesting that the work to repair it should be undertaken at minimal cost as considerable money has been spent on the Esplanade already; reporting that "Mr. Lowten objected to day before the Master to give any other than Sir John Johnstones Personal Security, & not to pay you the Interest of the £11,000 for your life. The Master was very angry & expressed himself in strong Terms. He said that there was something very mysterious in the Conduct of Sir John - and which he could not understand but that he should expect real Security should be given, and that he should insist upon the Interest of the Money being paid to you & should report accordingly."
