Summary
Acknowledging his offer to testify on their behalf but recognizing "of how much consequence your presence in London is at this time; asking if he would "write to us, as to the points we wish to establish by your evidence" in expectation that would satisfy the Court; explaining that they did make a public apology which they believed satisfied "everything you required;" requesting a clarification on the private versus military nature of their conduct; asking if he would send the original letters on the subject in order that they could produce them in court.
