The statement is undated, however Caleb Davis was wounded at the Battle of Germantown in October 1777 and was discharged from the Continental Army on April 19, 1780. Davis served in "Spencer's Regiment" under Colonel Oliver Spencer.

Concerning a disability claim for Caleb Davis that will require an Original Discharge Certificate from Col. Spencer "setting forth how he was wounded and Sent to the Hospital and discharged from thence by a Senior Surgeon as incurable; adding "If a New Regulation of Congress respecting such Soldiers takes place, a new method of obtaining pensions will also take place, which cannot at present be known."
