Summary
Acknowledging receipt of letters of January 07 and 20 on March 14; thanking him for his acknowledgment of Edward's letter from Claremont "in August last", particularly in light of Wentworth's "enfeebled state of health"; noting he has now been on the Continent again "rather more than six months"; explaining the "advanced state of the Duchess' pregnancy" and the "propriety of our child being born in England" necessitates their return there "very shortly"; expecting her "confinement to take place in May"; remarking on "painful subject" of the death "of our old friend Mrs. Brindley"; remarking sympathetically on her death with reference to the death of Lady Wentworth in "the spring of 1812"; agreeing to attempt to help one Mr. Hyde obtain the position of comptroller of the customs at Halifax but fearing Wentworth "overrate[s] ... my influence at home"; conveying with pleasure news that "your old friend" Madame de St. Laurent ("who has now resumed her own name, that of the Countess de Montgenet") is in good health and "has already formed an extensive and desirable society"; referring to "that state of tranquility and happiness, which she justly deserves".
