James Moody (1744-1809) was a New Jersey-born Loyalist who served during the American Revolution and later settled in Nova Scotia.
John A. Vesey (-1811) was an army officer and aide-de-camp and secretary to Edward. He died of a fever in Sicily in December 1811; Edward may have been unaware of his death.
Carlton House was a London residence of Edward's brother, the Prince Regent (later George IV).

Acknowledging receipt of a letter of Saturday [December 28]; mentioning the application of the widow of "our old & worthy friend Capt Moody" for a pension; affirming that he (Edward) will work to support it but acknowledging he has "no personal intimacy with the members of the present administration" and hopes the "evident strength of the Case" will ensure its success; connecting Edward's recent busyness with the "absence of General Vesey"; explaining in a post-script some business of Edward returning from Carlton House.
