Informing of an enclosed "extract" of a letter from the Duke of Portland; reporting, "[i]n consequence of His Grace's recommendation," that "the number of militia which could be employed to advantage should be six hundred"; recommending this number should be divided into six companies; suggesting "no more than" one officer, "six captains, & twelve subaltern officers, with the proper staff, should be called into service."
