Wishing his friend Toto a happy holiday season; acknowledging the recent message they left him "that was fundamentally a warning" about his friend Georgio; pointing out that "I have received such messages before"-- regarding Merchant, in the early days of their relationship; noting that, after ignoring such warnings, "it turned out that Ismail built my life and career"; assuring Toto that he has no romantic or physical interest in Georgio, and that all the latter has asked of him, along with another young filmmaker, Julien Landais, is that Ivory "read their screenplays and then tell them how they might be improved"; assuring Toto that they "must not worry too much" about him. Adding in a post script a description of a photograph [not present] of Georgio kneeling down to get a better look at a painting in the Met.
