Part of Ivory's onging correspondence with Nicholas Shakespeare during the period that the latter was wroking on his acclaimed 2000 biography of Bruce Chatwin.
It is unclear where this letter was written or whether it was faxed; it is on Ivory's personal stationery with the Claverack address, but a note written the day before [see MA 23840.1687a] was from Ashland, Oregon.

Summary
Noting that the accompanying letters comprise his correspondence with Chatwin for 1971 and 1972, and that it's likely there will be little material dated after 1972, "since we principally met in New York"; accepting Shakespeare's offer "to show me whatever you plan to publish which can be attributed to any of this material. My fear, as I said on the phone, is that there might be something in it which would hurt Elizabeth [Chatwin]."
