Summary
Writing his letter on the back of "this extraordinary document," which he thought she'd enjoy reading; describing the flurry of activity around "Heat and Dust," including competing interviews with Greta Scacchi and Julie Christie in the British press; telling her the film will be going to Cannes-- as either the UK or Indian entry, according to Merchant-- and festival officials Giles Jacob and Robert Favre Le Bret have called to voice their approval; telling her that Universal is distributing it in the U.S. and Rank is "going to stall ... in hopes of getting a better price for the unsold territories"; describing Asha Puthli's New Year visit "with her monstrous 7 year old son" and $5000 in cash; saying Shashi and Jennifer are coming for the premiere, and he wishes she was too.
