Summary
Assuring him that the steps he has taken to settle his various accounts were in no way meant unkindly towards Bell, outlining the difficulties he has had in his dealings with unscrupulous associates, and explaining that his recent illness required him to put his "Pecuniary affairs in order" and request the settlement of longstanding balances; going on to discuss his falling out with four of the societies in which he was a member, and complaining that the "managing committee" has overstepped its jurisdiction in demanding that he return all books in his possession belonging to any of the (unspecified) societies in question.
