Summary
Describing in detail her decrepit-- and in her opinion, typically English-- rental flat in London; relating the details of her recent visit to her mother, and her mother's conviction that people are stealing from her; recounting how she and Jhab went to pick Ava up from Kings Cross only to have Ava announce that she is failing her architecture course; mulling over Ava's options and expressing some despair; noting that she has an interview scheduled with the BBC next Friday at John Murray's, and complaining that "they will ask me about India and I'm giving no thought to India, all I can think about is my poor Mother ... , [and] my 3 daughters, all of them unsettled and somehow lessened, disappointed ... "; telling him she hasn't called Catherine or Shashi or Jennifer yet, she is so preoccupied with her mother.
