Hand-dated "January 2nd, 1975"; letter was begun on December 31, 1975 [see first sentence] in Goa, and added to on January 1, 1976 [see last paragraph] in Mumbai.
The "Autobiography (book)" Merchant mentions in this letter is James Ivory's "Autobiography of a Princess, also Being the Adventures of an American Film Director in the Land of the Maharajas" (1975).
