A letter apparently accompanying a doll or stuffed animal presented by Wells to Doris as "an old friend of your Father & myself, Sir Orang Haut-ton, a perfect gentleman as you will find and a stranger to Sandgate"; urging her to make him welcome and assuring her that she will find him to be "a most charming person & held firmly by the legs, a more effectual instrument for hitting a worthless brother over the head, it would be difficult to find."
